Far too often we take the pursuit of a goal as the primary factor driving our eating experiences. People treat the satisfaction of their nutrition as some sort of race to an end goal, something that has to be “toughed out” or “gritted through” until they someday reach a physique that will give them satisfaction.
In my years of counseling, I’ve found that to be not just painful for no reason, but actually counterproductive.To get long term results, we need a long term, sustainable plan, and mindful + intuitive eating gives us the natural method to do so.
Instead of focusing on short term motivation – a finite resource- we shift the focus to mindful, intuitive, ENJOYABLE eating.
When we take the time to really savor the foods we eat, we don’t have to use any energy to stave off cravings for binges and unhealthy diet/binge cycles. Think about the last time you ate chocolate ice cream, or a waffle, or even an apple. Did you stop to truly experience it? Did you take note as your mouth literally watered in anticipation of the nourishment and taste it was about to receive? Did you serve it yourself slowly, purposefully, deliciously? Or did you just scarf it down to get mere seconds of satisfaction before wanting more?
